First, you need to develop specific goals for losing weight. Is there a particular clothing size you need to fit into? Do you want to reach a certain goal weight? Is your goal to simply get in shape and live a healthier life?


Keep a weight loss journal listing your progress. Check your weight only one time a week. If you weigh yourself too often, it can be a detriment to your self-esteem. Write down everything you eat and the number of calories each food item or drink contains. Snacks and beverages should be included as well. This can sometimes keep you from making bad decisions when choosing what you are going to eat and drink.


When you feel like you are starving, you are more likely to grab the first thing that comes along, even if it happens to be bad for you. Make sure to have healthy foods available to you when you are away from home to avoid this type of problem. Instead of eating at a diner or restaurant, you can eat healthier by bringing your lunch to school or work. When you prepare your own lunch, you can regulate your calorie intake and save yourself from ordering high-calorie restaurant meals. When you pack snacks or lunch, you protect both your wallet and your waistline.


A healthy weight loss plan requires both modest exercise and a nutritional diet. Choosing a workout that you find engaging will make it easier to achieve the combination of diet and exercise that results in steady weight loss. If you find it difficult to motivate yourself to exercise, get a buddy to take a walk with you. Turn it into a family event by taking a bike ride or a stroll in the park. Before you know it, you will have put in a good workout without ever having to call it exercise!


Obviously, if you have no junk food in your cupboards, you will be far less likely to eat it. Replace your favorite junk foods with healthy alternatives that you still enjoy snacking on, such as salsa, fresh fruits and granola bars. Quite buying those foods that shouldn’t be in your diet. Don’t even buy it when you are at the grocery store!


Ask your friends for help. Friends are people who will help you in times of need. Having someone who will cheer you on is really inspiring. Your friends can be there to motivate you when you really need it. Make sure you reach out to your friends for support.
